Memphis is known for many-a-things, but if you ask a tourist, you'll get one of two buzz words: barbecue or Elvis. Though I am surely proud of both, I am most fascinated by the fanfare associated with Elvis Presley. His mansion is a magnet for millions each year; and even if I have only been twice my entire life, I now have a new reason to venture to Elvis Presley Boulevard...
THE SERVICE + SPACE
Upon pulling into the estate's driveway, a kind valet crew graciously led me and my overnight luggage into the lobby for check-in. Soft Elvis tunes hummed in the background without overwhelming the atmosphere, which reflected plush seating areas and stylish interior flourishes. The luxury fabrics of Elvis' famous wardrobes guided the lobby, restaurant and room details. It was a tasteful and very appreciated approach to the hotel design.
The staycation was a family affair for my father's birthday, so we began the celebrations immediately.
THE RESTAURANT
After a cocktail at the Lobby Lounge blue suede bar, we took our seats at Delta's Kitchen, a fine dining experience located on the ground floor of the Guest House.
We didn’t have to leave the property for a delectable dinner--the restaurant's impressive wine list and menu were excellent from start to finish. A jumbo lump crab cake and jumbo shrimp cocktail kicked off the meal with a bang. My prime filet was also excellent, paired with carrots and a mini-cast iron skillet of Brussels sprouts.
For dessert, an Elvis-inspired banana pudding was topped with a candle for Dad's birthday. The waitress was phenomenal; the staff sang with us; the night never wanted to end!
We returned to the restaurant the following morning for a complimentary breakfast of fresh granola, bacon and pancakes--truly a meal fit for a King.
THE SUITES
The Guest House suites are designed with luxury and relaxation in mind. What a treat to have a cheese plate in our room upon arrival. Not to mention, a sip from the mini-fridge helps with the unwinding process!
After dinner and drinks at Delta's Kitchen, I soon sunk into the mattress in marvel; the bed's comfort gave me the best night's sleep I had had in weeks.
Morning views of the expansive grounds include a gorgeous lawn for events and ceremonies, and a pool with surrounding lawn chairs and fire pits. When the weather warms, I know where Graceland fans will be flocking.
