Hanukkah is a festive holiday on its own, absolutely; but its typical timing weeks before Christmas causes a hiccup in preparation. Thanksgiving weekend ended just a week ago, and we’re already lighting the menorah?!
The dish is traditionally served at Jewish holiday feasts; however, I’ve decided it’s almost better as a brunch-time centerpiece.
You wouldn’t believe it, but these Hanukkah latkes are oven-baked and absolutely delicious. You’ll avoid the smell of oil, the clean-up of oil, and the less-than-healthy benefits of oil—which leaves you with all the goodness of crispy golden potato pancakes and a side of applesauce.
Having relished in the Hanukkah traditions as the rabbi's daughter, I coveted the game of dreidel. It's competitive and crafty, and, more importantly, it involves candy. The "traditional" candy given to the winner of dreidel is a rather tasteless piece of chocolate wrapped in gold foil.
A mini version of Jewish penicillin, perfect for a party crowd.
