During the downtime, I have recognized spring cleaning projects that, prior to being homebound, didn’t seem to be as much of a priority. Now, the need to organize has become blatantly exposed — anyone else in that boat?
Blue Pencil Home, who helped me totally redo my kitchen in 2018, stepped in again (virtually this time) to direct a seamless process for our master closet, which Alex and I share. To admit that we managed to deal with our prior closet situation (scroll to see) for years is embarrassing, but I think we all fall to norms that we don’t realize need to shift until we’re given a new perspective. This pandemic has surely created one.
I am not going to sugarcoat that the process was easy or enjoyable; it was tiring and messy and tedious. But the end result? Completely freeing and fantastic.
Blue Pencil Home is known for its magical home takeovers that, in a matter of hours or days, completely create a new space or transform an existing one. Due to coronavirus measures, Blue Pencil Home’s services now are virtual — however, I will attest that their long-distance support made worlds of a difference.
I sent photos of my closet’s current situation for their analysis, and Katie and Brooke quickly turned around a series of storage recommendations that they ordered and delivered straight to my doorstep with zero contact. They recommended uniform hangers from The Container Store and a stacking shoe rack from Target (with zero carpentry experience required).
The most gratifying part, in my opinion, was how many bags of clothes and shoes we were able to donate. We left our donations on the front porch for Blue Pencil Home to deliver on our behalf.
