I tested this recipe two years ago and keep coming back to the incredible flavor and healthy preparation of US Farm-Raised Catfish, which makes is a perfect match for any cuisine you’re craving for dinner. We keep it on hand in our freezer to easily defrost and prepare on a whim! Did you know that catfish is an excellent source of protein, free of hormones, and low in saturated fat?
Grab your pantry pretzel stash and the mild and lean, clean protein of US Farm-Raised Catfish — and let’s get air frying!
4 US Farm Raised Catfish fillets
Salt + pepper
1/4 cup flour of choice
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
1 egg
1 tbsp milk
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
2 cups pretzels, crushed
Cooking spray
COMEBACK SAUCE
1/2 cup mayo
1.5 tbsp ketchup
1 tsp hot sauce
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp black pepper
Season catfish fillets with salt and pepper. Place crushed pretzels in one shallow dish, and flour with paprika and garlic powder in a second dish. In a third dish, whisk egg yolk with milk and mustard.
Coat each fillet with flour, then egg mixture, and finally with the pretzels. Press to coat evenly. Add each fillet to an air fryer basket and spray lightly with cooking spray. Cook at 400F for 8-10 minutes.
While fillets cook, combine your comeback sauce of mayo, ketchup, hot sauce, garlic powder, and pepper. Serve crispy catfish fillets and sauce immediately.
Note: If you don’t have an air fryer, oven baking these fillets will work well though may not be as crispy. Bake at 400F for 15 minutes.
